ROY G. SHELDON

Roy George Sheldon was born in St. Louis, Missouri, January 14, 1931, to Fay Lenore Kirshner and Sam Sheldon. His early childhood was spent in Texas as his father’s family’s businesses were located throughout the state. Roy and his parents lived in Amarillo, Fort Worth, Wichita Falls and Dallas.

In 1946, he began prep school at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and graduated in 1949. From there he went on to Yale University, graduating in 1953 with a B.A. in Psychology.

An early marriage in 1953, which ended in divorce in 1974, produced three children: Linda Diane, Gregory William and Douglas George Sheldon.

In September of 1981, on a blind date arranged by friends, he met Elizabeth Lynne Boston. They were married in September of 1982, and reside in Dallas.

Roy’s business career began after he graduated from Yale when he joined the family business. A regional chain of menswear stores, S&Q Clothiers, was founded in 1915 in Ada, Oklahoma, by his father and grandfather. The stores were located in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas when Roy joined the business. After he became President of the organization, the stores were in 8 different cities. The chain no longer exists, as the last S&Q store was closed in 1988. In that year, Roy began a second successful career as an Independent Broker involved in Employee Benefits.

Throughout his business career he has served as National President of MRA (Menswear Retailers of America), Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Board of Director & Western area Vice-President, Dallas Chapter Chairman of YPO, President of the Yale Club of Dallas, Southern Methodist University Institute for Retail Management, and President of Goodwill Industries of Dallas. He has been on the Board of Directors of: Main Street National Bank (later merged with JPMorgan Chase), The Texas Council on Economic Education, The Dallas Community Chest Trust Fund, Men’s Fashion Association, Texas Retail Federation, and American Retail Federation.

Roy and his wife Lynne continue to enjoy their many shared interests: tennis, world travel, the arts, and participating in Dallas charitable and social activities with their circle of treasured friends.
